Media & communications workshops

The workshops listed below are for individuals or organisations wishing to undertake small group training to improve performance in the media or with personal presentation communication skills that are so critical to communicating within the workplace or to the public. Organisations wishing to arrange group training specifically to meet the needs of staff or board/committee members who can meet the minimum participation numbers, should contact Kim Goldsmith or Bruce Reynolds to discuss specific training needs, training dates and prices.

Kim Goldsmith

Kim Goldsmith, Ochre Communications:


Based in Dubbo, Kim Goldsmith has been delivering communications training across NSW for the past 13 years, working with hundreds of individuals interested in improving their personal and public communication skills. She has 20 years experience in media and regional marketing communications. Kim is a former ABC Radio rural reporter and has also worked as a specialist rural journalist in the print media, prior to establishing her own business in 1996. Ochre Communications specialises in strategic and creative marketing communications for regional organisations. As well as delivering private training, Kim has also taught at the Western College of TAFE in Dubbo. She has a Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.

Bruce Reynolds

Bruce Reynolds, Reynolds Communication:


Bruce Reynolds is a highly skilled radio and online journalist, who has a strong understanding of how the media works, after 18 years of service with the ABC, the last 14 spent as a rural reporter based in Orange. He developed a broad understanding of the rural sector in the central west and western plains of NSW. During this time, he worked in most capital cities and also spent six months working in Parliament House in Canberra as the national political rural reporter. During his term with the ABC, he trained nearly 40 rural reporters. Bruce spent the last two months with the ABC travelling across Australia, training staff in online skills.





Media and communications workshops

Mastering media relations: general media skills workshop

5 – 12 participants only (more than 8 participants requires 2 trainers)  4.5 hours

This workshop has been designed by specialists in regional media communications for individuals and organisations who operate in a regional environment. It is about developing effective media relations skills through understanding the communications process, knowing what the media’s expectations and needs are and being able to control the message and its delivery. Some practical components to this course.

Conquering media relations: advanced media skills workshop


5 – 10 participants only (more than 5 participants requires 2 trainers) 5 hours


This workshop is about developing effective skills in delivering key messages through the media, through preparation of the message and the interview, practice interviews and feedback. This is a practical workshop with close one-on-one time with the workshop trainer, providing guidance in a safe, training environment.

Workshop interviews are recorded for feedback purposes

On Target Communications: an effective communications workshop


4-8 participants only (more than 6 participants requires 2 trainers)  4.5 – 5.5 hours

This workshop provides an overview of how to effectively communicate your message to a range of audiences i.e. your next-door-neighbour or a Federal Government minister. By the end of the workshop you will have an understanding of how to make your personal presentations more effective through a better understanding of the process, your audience and your own performance. Each participant gets a minimum of two opportunities to present in front of an audience and video camera, gaining immediate feedback on each performance.
